Description of Gary Ranker Coaching Experience:
My team and I went through coaching with Gary Ranker using his coaching methodology. I'd like to write a little about the experience.
I have been with GE for over 19 years and have had a "take charge" style, which helped to bring me success. I have very high expectations for myself and others.
My greatest take away from the 360 executive coaching experience was learning to listen better, and to share more with peers and subordinates on a day to day basis. I improved my communication all the way around.
I acknowledge performance more now than before and my team who went through 360s and team coaching went from $865 million to $1.2 billion in a year. We are working better and are more efficient. We are in a mature market (corporate aircraft leasing) and yet are sustaining increases in excess of 33% over the past several years.
In addition to the coaching for my own team, my peers in the senior management of our business overall went through the same experience: individual 360 based executive coaching and coaching for the team. This included our boss, the General Manager, who led the way in embracing this change initiative.
My take aways from the coaching for the senior team are that we are more aware of where we're weak, and we acknowledged that we could do better. (This in spite of the fact that we are one of the most successful out of the 27 GE Capital businesses.) Our senior management team gained more of a team spirit and more willingness to work together with less conflict.
I would choose go to through coaching again - for my own team and would recommend it again for our senior management team that runs the Commercial Equipment Financing business for GE Capital.
