Senior Management and Team Coaching with Gary Ranker:

About two years ago we asked Gary Ranker to do 360s for our senior managers and to coach our team.

Looking back, would I choose to do it again? Yes.

What value was added through their coaching? The period of coaching lasted about a year in total. Several key results come to mind. Individual managers improved by addressing their own developmental issues which arose through the 360 process. Overall there is less destructive conflict between some of our team members . and when there is conflict, we have learned to resolve it quicker and more constructively.

Gary Ranker is different. He forced us to look at the whole team's dynamics. This corporate team 360 process showed us that while we were successful by outside measurements, most of our own leadership agreed that we were dysfunctional as a team.

The process surfaced the issue that you can lead a competitive successful GE Capital company without adopting a conflict leadership style. You can succeed without the conflict within your team. Maybe the level of conflict we often observe isn't good for all of us? There are some people who feel that if you take conflict out, you take the teeth out. We proved otherwise. We reduced the destructive conflict within our team.

The corporate matrix that came out of the team coaching process was the most valuable deliverable. It got us all on the same page, involved in the behavioral change process at the same time. We simply acknowledged that we had team issues and that we could do better. This past year has been our most successful ever.
